An American crime drama airing on NBC from 1984-1989, created by Anthony Yerkovich and produced by Michael Mann. It starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as undercover detectives combatting crime in Miami. The show was known for its distinct style, incorporating pop music, luxury items, and fashion, influencing 1980s trends and contributing to the preservation of Miami’s Art Deco architecture. Many notable actors and musicians made guest appearances. Scripts were often inspired by real Miami crimes, and Michael Mann was executive producer for much of its run.
Much of the score was composed by acclaimed composer Jan Hammer. “Right from the pilot episode, the show had an edgy, dark tone to it that hadn’t been explored on TV before. It was very much in the style of director/producer Michael Mann’s films. The emotional context was played out usually with very little dialogue, relying on moody imagery to push the narrative forward “
